About Bob Severy aka The Surf Guru
Bob first ventured out into the cold Pacific Ocean in December of 1961. Equipped with no wetsuit and sharing surfboards, they took turns riding the big lines of whitewater all the way to the beach. 45 years have passed since his first big adventure into the cold blue and he remains just as excited about his time in the Pacific.
Bob has surfed from deep Mexico to northern Washington, with California, Oregon and Hawaii in between. He has always come back to the cold water, clean air and uncrowded beaches of Oregon. It is here that you can enjoy great waves with little or no interference from other surfers.
One of Bob's highlights was teaching is son, Kevin, to surf. It is such a blessing to be able share waves with him. Bob has seen a lot of changes both good and bad in his years. He loves to tell stories about his past with those who want to find out a little bit more about the good old days and history of this area.
Bob was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. He has made Florence his home for more than half a century. He is a single father. Bob works for the local school district at the High School level working in Special Ed. He coaches High School Volleyball, loves to mountain bike, play drums and spend time with his son, Kevin.
